The Dutch regulator Kanspelautoriteit (KSA) has confirmed that it expects to provide around 35 licenses for online gambling, after the iGaming regulation comes into force.

KSA said they expect to receive around 40 license applications, many of whom will come from international operators when the Remote Gambling Act comes into force on April 1.

The supervisory authority has stated this in its annual report for 2020, together with key requirements for licensors, and the extra authorities given to the KSA to handle illegal gaming activities.

The report confirmed to new importance to operators to comply with parts of the Remote Gambling Act on addiction prevention and consumer protection.

In particular, all operators must check players against 'Cruks' self -exertion database, as well as providing the control database (CDB)' s own data obtained from games, so that KSA can perform remote monitoring of gaming systems.

Cruks and CDB were used in 2020, with follow -up measures that were still necessary in the first months of 2021 to make the systems operational.

Following a tender process in 2020, IT and business consultant Netcompany has undertaken the management of the systems.

An extension of the game fee will also be used to create a addiction prevention fund, where revenues are used to provide anonymous treatment of gambling addiction, and prevention and treatment of research.

KSA also revealed in the report that they earned $ 8.2 million in gaming fee in 2020, up 12.3 % $ 644,000 from fees, down 41.5 %.

The report also mentioned the license data for slot machines, where KSA granted 43 permits in 2020 and refused nine. An additional 10 applications were withdrawn, while seven applications were approved after changes were implemented.

The regulator added that there was a decline in online gambling traffic online during 2020, as they said was due to the cancellation of sports events.

Remote Gambling Act was originally into force on July 1, 2020, but has been delayed three times.
